This chestnut stallion has been one of the most popular stallions in Europe for years now. In particular in France, Candy de Nantuel is very frequently used and has made a name for himself as the sire of up-and-coming young sport horses. His offspring shine as they demonstrate thrilling talent in young horse classes, thus confirming the breeders’ trust in Candy. He is successfully shown at international level by Pénélope Leprévost and thanks to a co-operation with VDL Stud, the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping GmbH can offer fresh semen by this valuable stallion during this breeding season.
Candy de Nantuel provides our customers with an interesting option. While the mares bred to him should have sufficient height and frame, Candy is able to sire offspring with that TB air.

Sire
Luidam, the sire of Candy de Nantuel, used to be a top level show jumper himself with Billy Twomey. His relatively few offspring, including Blue Angel (Kent Farrington/Lauren Hough), Luibanta BH (Amanda Derbyshire), Pewit Nono (Christine McCrea & Billy Twomey), Ginger Pop (Alison Robitaille) and Luikan Q (Ben Asselin/Angelie von Essen) stand out for their exceptional athleticism. Candy carries Quidam de Revel on both sides of his pedigree, with his son Guidam (Eric van der Vleuten) the sire of Candy’s sire, Luidam.
Damline
Candy‘s dam, Thara Nantuel, competed at international 1.45m level with French rider, Arthur Deuquet. She goes back to iconic French sires, Diamant de Semilly and Quidam de Revel, two exceptional show jumping greats. The produce of Thara Nantuel includes Scott Brash’ 1.60m jumper, Hello Folie and international 1.50m level jumping horse, Cobalt de Nantuel (Philippe Rozier). Thara’s full brother, Orphee de Nantuel, is a Selle Français-licensed stallion, and her full sister, Oceane de Nantuel, used to be a grand prix level jumper with Titouan Schumacher and Michel Hecart. Moreover, Oceane de Nantuel is also dam to international top level jumper, Viceversa de la Roque (Alberto Zorzi) and to international jumping horses, Uthope de la Roque and Atlantic de la Roque. Candy de Nantuel is also closely related to 1.60m jumper, Nature Menardiere (Sören von Rönne) as well as Pacha de Nantuel (Reed Kessler).
Personal contribution of Candy de Nantuel
He is known as one of the most talented jumpers of his generation and is particularly respected for his supple canter and his elasticity. Already as a young horse, the now 13-year-old attracted attention thanks to his excellent show jumping performances, placed in the French equivalent of the National Young Horse Championships and competed in the final of the World Championship for young jumping horses. Produced and shown by Pénélope Leprévost, he made the jump to top level sport, with the combination’s results including placings at Grand Prix level up to 1.55m in Saint-Tropez (FRA), Rotterdam (NED), and Paris (FRA). He definitely lives up to the breeders‘ expectations, both in his own as well as with his offspring’s performance.
Offspring
The first Candy offspring are now eight-year-old and command attention in international (youngster) and advanced level jumping classes, for example Maple Leaf (Cian O‘Connor/Yuri Mansur). Candy passes on excellent balance, suppleness and elastic jumping, all of which makes him an excellent sport horse sire. His sons and daughters play dominant roles at national young horse championship level and compete at World Championships for young jumping horses. Candy de Nantuel boasts about a dozen licensed sons, such as Highland de Riverland and Hot Savoie or Happy Paluelle, Itoki de Riverland and Hélios de Trépeine. Also his foals are very much in demand in France, with his offspring realizing top prizes up to 90,000 euros at auction.
