On Saturday evening, everything played out just perfecty at Hof Waterkant. Following a high calibre ranking jumping class won by Holstein-born Philip Rüping ahead of host Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann, twelve foals were put to auction in atmospheric surroundings and terrific summer weather.
The collection’s high-light was up to sale right away: Hip no 1, a filly by Chacco-Blue, the Schockemöhle stallion who died much too soon - and incidentally also the sire of Philip Rüping winning horse in the previous jumping class. As if that wouldn’t be enough already, the chestnut filly’s dam is no other than Whoopie C by Mr. Blue, who is also dam to Daniel Deußer’s championship horse Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z. Ozeana Tobago Blue – that’s how the highest priced lot is called – was knocked down to buyers from Denmark at 83,000 euros after an exciting battle of the bids which saw Chacco-Blue’s former rider, Andreas Kreuzer, also involved for quite a long time. The new owner were thrilled, same as the breeding partnership Verhaag/Schwarz-Hafter (Heueßen) responsible for the breeding of this foal conceived by ICSI.
Average price at about 20,200 euros
The second-most expensive lot sold to Switzerland at 23,000 euros: Chilli Chief by H&M Chilli Willi-Colman from the Oesterwurth-based Thiedemann family’s proven breeding programme comes from Holsteiner mare family 2543. The colt’s direct dam line has already produced licensed stallions, 1.60m level jumping horses as well as a Holsteiner champion stallion. The Meyer-Zimmermann-owned stallion Chinchero also got an awesome entry, with the four-year-old Chopin-Clarimo son represented by as much as three first-season offspring in the auction collection. The most expensive of them, out of a Quantum dam and bred by Sören von Rönne of Neuendeich, sold at 18,000 euros. Another foal also knocked down at 18.000 euros was lot no 6, a Cassilano JMEN - Colman filly bred by Evi Bengtsson (Itzehoe). Her dam is a full sister to the breeder’s success horse, Kuschel’s Ulika. “We are very happy with this result and I was pleased so see so many buyers on site and involved in the bidding”, head of marketing Roland Metz said after the event’s successful premiere at Hof Waterkant. “It’s terrific the Meyer-Zimmermanns have provided the Holsteiner Verband with the opportunity to present these high quality foals in this setting. The concept has totally worked.” While the foals sold at an average price of just above 20,200 euros, the total turnover was 242,500 euros.
