How does a mare inspection work?
A commission registers the mares in all breeding districts. After measuring, the three- and four-year-old mares are presented in hand and free-range in the hall. After around ten mares, they form a ring in which the district premium mares are honoured and the Verband premium mares are selected. The next mares are then presented in the hall and the process is repeated until all the mares have been entered. The five-year-old and older mares are registered in the hall after the measurement and are then released. In all breeding districts, the five-year-old and older mares are judged before the three- and four-year-olds are registered.

Only the mares selected for the final ring must remain at the inspection place, all other mares are released after their inspection. After inspection, all selected mares competing for participation in the Verband mare show in Elmshorn (16 June 2024) will be presented again in the final ring. This is where the final selection is made.
