Just a few days to go and Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and Christoph Zimmermann’s Hof Waterkant just outside Hamburg turns into a show jumping mecca. Once again, the married couple has been organizing a superlative event with the four-star-rated horse show on 2-6 August also involving a grand prix classified as qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics. It would not be complete without a foal auction offering Holsteiner elites, held in the evening on 5 August – with the auction selection now online on www.holsteiner.auction.
A collection in a class of its own – an expectation the foal auction definitely lives up to. And the reason for this are not only the much in demand sires which send their offspring, but – as is standard Holstein practice – first and foremost the nine foals’ high-achieving performance damlines. Lot 1, Coco Chanel by Carrera VDL-Nabab de Reve, boasts no other than Marcus Ehning’s 1.60m level winner, Gitania, for her second dam; moreover, the damline has produced international sport horses like for example Verdi III by Hors la Loi II (Brianne Goutal-Mateau/USA) or else Julius by Cantus (Christina Gustafsson/SWE). And the filly’s breeders, Janne Friederike and Christoph Zimmermann, have come up with a honourable idea for the foal’s sale: Coco Chanel is to be auctioned as a charity foal with the proceeds donated to Skill up!, a Welthungerhilfe training scheme. The charity’s initiative provides career-related training to around 21,000 young women and men.
In the footsteps of sport horse icons
A half broth to the hero of the Riesenbeck Longines grand prix, Uricas v/d Kattevennen (Harrie Smolders/NED), is to be auctioned to new owners, lot 4, Cornet’s Way. Just as interesting is lot 6, Baronin by Baloubet du Rouet: the filly with the striking markings out of a dam successfully shown at international level by Janine Rijkens (GER) carries countless sport icons. Lot 8, El Marino by Esmeraldo-Clarimo, not only is by the 2021 Holsteiner champion stallion bred by the Meyer family, but is also very closely related to several licensed stallions like Cellestiano by Cellestial or Come Fly with Me Va by Comme il faut. The produce ofLord daughter B-Estelle includes the celebrated high-achievers VDL Cardento by Capitol I (Peter Eriksson/SWE), Cartello by Cartani (Darragh Kenny/IRL) and Quintender by Quinar (Ludo Philippaerts/BEL), and she is also second dam to lot 10, United Future by United Way-Cassini I. Lot 14, Chaccoran, is by Chaccothage Blue PS out of a Cornet Obolensky daughter whose dam, N-Caretana BB by Caretino, caused a splash in the jumping arena with Niklaus Schurtenberger (SUI). Moreover, the direct damline has produced the licensed stallions Caretano Z by Caretino, Contendro II by Contender and Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermanns Chaka Chaka by Casall.
Foals presented twice
The foals of the auction carried out jointly by Holsteiner and Hannoveraner Verband are presented for the first time at the CSI4* Hof Waterkant in the afternoon on Friday, 4 August 2023. On the day of the auction, 5 August 2023, prospective buyers can have another closer look at their favourites in the afternoon, while the auction kicks off at about 9.00pm.
