A True Match: German Jumping Derby and Holsteiner Foal Auction in Hamburg on 9 May...

Holsteiner horses and their riders have always delivered excellent performances on the turf of the German Jumping Derby in Hamburg Klein-Flottbek – and this does not only apply to the wins taken home by Dacara E by Cancara (Cassandra Orschel/2022), Cordillo by Corrido (Nisse Lüneburg/2019), Calle Cool by Concerto II (Nisse Lüneburg/2012/2014) or Carassina by Concerto II (Thomas Kleis/2009). This very turf is also the starting point for Holsteiner careers, providing a worthy background for the Holsteiner foal auction held on Thursday, 9 May 2024. The collection is now online on www.holsteiner.auction.

Eleven high-quality lots have been hand-picked by auction manager Felix Flinzer and his team. They are publicly presented for the first time to a live audience in the Derby Park on Ascension Day at around 12:30pm, with the auction scheduled to begin at around 4:30pm, after the Championship of Hamburg. Lot 1, Sugar in the Morning, is by Zuccero and Casall, and her dam is a full sister to Zuckersüß d’Argilla, who was very successfully shown at international level by Holger Wulschner (GER) , for example at Spruce Meadows (CAN). Another foal by team European champion Zuccero (Rolf-Göran Bengtsson/SWE) is lot 6: The name of ZZ Top (damsire: For Pleasure) indicates the direction this colt is aiming for: to the top! His dam’s produce includes Valeroso SDN/Di Pleasure, who sold for the top price of 600,000 euros, became the National Mexican Champion at seven-year-old and went on to compete at international level with great success with Brazilian. Lot 2 is an impressive young colt by Ermitage Kalone. A quick look at his pedigree immediately reveals that he carries Derby blood: his second dam in none other than Carassina by Concerto II, who not only won the German Jumping Derby with Thomas Kleis (GER) but is also dam to the Holsteiner Verband stallions United Way and Million’s Way. United Way himself is the sire of lot 4, a typey filly called Supernova (damsire: Clarimo). Corrado I used to be one of the figureheads of the Holsteiner breed both as a breeding stallion and a sport horse. Lot 3, his gorgeous young son Cjell von der Söhr, is another gem in the foal collection for the German Jumping Derby: Among his closest relatives are 1.50m jumpers like for example Krack de Joanins (Olivier Perreau/FRA).
