When the auctioneer’s hammer falls on Friday, 14 August, at Herbert-Blöcker-Platz in Elmshorn, the focus will once again be on the future of Holsteiner show jumping horse breeding: Around 50 carefully selected foals make up the collection at the traditional Holsteiner Elite Foal Auction. As part of the Holsteiner Foal and Family Festival, breeders, riders and horse lovers can look forward to a collection that showcases the full spectrum of modern Holsteiner show jumping breeding, featuring highly interesting pedigrees, proven dam lines and promising young sires.
Strong genetics meet successful dam lines
The collection brings together proven top sires with up-and-coming young stallions. The lot includes, amongst others, offspring of Million Dollar, Cascadello I, Uriko, United Way, Chacotage Blue, Ogano Sitte, Kassander van’t Roosakker and Pegase van’t Ruytershof. The younger generation of sires is also prominently represented – for example, with foals by Vigado, Duplexx and Kantato – as well as the newest sires Conchezz and Cognac.
Highlights featuring international sport genetics
Catalogue number 30, Our Colorful Legend by Ogano Sitte–Arezzo, line 2137, from the successful Schoof family stud, combines an exceptional pedigree with a striking appearance. Above all, a look at his family tree makes this foal a particularly interesting prospect: the line includes, amongst others, Dobel’s Cento, who, under Otto Becker, became an Olympic champion, World Cup winner and winner of the Aachen Grand Prix. A sporting career that speaks volumes about the exceptional depth of talent in this dam line.
Catalogue number 34, Ustino by United Way-Casello, also boasts a very special pedigree. The foal’s second dam is Diamantina v/h Ruytershof, the full sister to Harrie Smoders’ (NED) Emerald v/h Ruytershof. This foal’s pedigree reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of international show jumping. With Nixon van’t Meulenhof ridden by Jos Verlooy, Ilusionata van’t Meulenhof ridden by Niels Bruynseels and Le Blue Diamond van’t Meulenhof ridden by Olivier Philippaerts are just three of numerous 1.60-metre show jumpers that exemplify the outstanding level of performance within this family.
Catalogue number 27, Million Cash vom Voglgut by Million Dollar-Cash and Carry, also boasts international sporting genetics. Here, Million Dollar was crossed with the Holstein line 4564 – specifically the branch from which the Rolex Top Ten winner Austria (Kent Farrington/USA) and the 1.60-metre show jumper Texas I (Markus Saurugg/AUT) emerged.
Presentation in the afternoon, auction in the evening
Auction Friday begins at 2 pm with the presentation of the elite foals on Herbert-Blöcker-Platz. At 5 pm, things get serious: the Holsteiner Elite Foal Auction in hybrid format begins.
Buyers have the opportunity to first see the foals live during the presentation and then select their favourites. Anyone wishing to familiarise themselves with the individual lots and their pedigrees in advance can find the complete collection online. After the auction, breeders, horse enthusiasts and guests are invited to round off the evening with a party on the association’s grounds.
Holsteiner Foal and Family Festival on Saturday
The Elite Foal Auction forms part of the Holsteiner Foal and Family Festival. On Saturday, the spotlight will be on the next generation – both on two and four legs. At the children’s riding competition, the youngest riders will gain their first competitive experience, whilst the big Holsteiner Family Experience Day, featuring numerous hands-on activities, will also attract visitors to Elmshorn who have no previous connection to horse breeding. From 1 pm, the Holsteiner State Foal Championships will mark the breeding highlight of the weekend. Around 40 qualified foals will compete there for the titles of Holsteiner State Champions 2026.
