(Derby) Stars of the Future at the Holsteiner Foal Auction on 9 May

They simply belong together - Holsteiners and the German Jumping Derby.  There, where the legendary bank, Pulvermann’s grave and the birch oxer continue to thrill the crowd and the show jumping elite compete in the four- and five-star tour, Holsteiner horses dominate the action. On Thursday, 9 May 2024, a Holsteiner foal auction is scheduled as one of the highlights on the programme.

Auction manager Felix Flinzer and his team have selected eleven lots for the exclusive collection which is to be publicly presented at the Derby park for the first time on Ascension Day at around 12:20pm, with the begin of the auction scheduled for about 4:25pm, after the Championship of Hamburg. Many a family history of these lots is closely linked to this horse show with a long tradition held in the Derby park: the former winner of the blue ribbon, Carassina by Concerto II (Thomas Kleis/GER), is represented by a grandson, lot 2 in the auction. Espartaco by Ermitage Kalone-Colman is expected to be in no way inferior to his sport horse relatives. Lot 9 is another very interesting young colt: In 2017 his sire Casall celebrated the end of his matchless career on the Hamburg Derby turf – and now Caillou is to lay the foundation for his own at the auction there. His family has produced 1.60m level jumpers such as Rosalia la Silla by Cassini I (Bassem Mohammed/QAT) or Robin Naeve’s (GER) success horse, Casalia R by Casall. Lot 10, a young filly by Keaton-Cassiano is another gem in this Derby selection. Special Edition comes from a branch of the successful mare family 104A which has produced numerous licensed stallions and 1.60m level sport horses, including Caretano by Caretino (Jos Lansink/BEL) or Chaka Chaka by Casall (Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann/GER). With Zuccero by Zirocco Blue himself competing in the five-star-tour in Hamburg, three offspring of the team European Champion (Rolf-Göran Bengtsson/SWE) are about to find new owners in the auction. And also the career of Cassandra Orschel’s 2022 Derby winner, Dacara E by Cancara, once started at a Holsteiner Verband auction. And who knows – maybe we are to meet the lots of the Holsteiner Derby auction again at this venue in some years.
