For the eighth time now, a hand-picked selection of Holsteiner foals is to be auctioned against the backdrop of the venerable German jumping and dressage Derby in Hamburg-Klein Flottbek. Auction manager Felix Flinzer has selected ten very special foals for this high calibre auction sale held on Thursday, 18 May.
In good Holstein fashion, these young talents not only descend from internationally established sires and promising young stallions, but also come from the most sought-after dam lines.
Right away lot no 1, Rocket Girl by Uriko-Zirocco, her third dam being no other than Elegante I, who also produced Toni Hassmann’s three-time Derby winner, Collin by Contender. Moreover, this dam line, stem 4539, has also produced the legendary Olympic stallion, Chin Chin. Apropos Derby winner - also lot no 9 carries blood boasting great success at Klein Flottbek’s big green showground: Third dam to Clemens by Charaktervoll-Corrado I is Zürich, a mare which has also produced a Derby winner, Calle Cool (Nisse Lüneburg). Pikeur Dylon (Markus Brinkmann) and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson’s young horse world champion, Caillan, come from this direct dam line, as well. Very interesting is lot no 7, Champagner, a young Casall-Crunch colt from famous mare family 3389, a dam line generally associated by experts with one stallion in particular, which is of course once-in-a-century sire, Cassini I by Capitol I. His dam Wisma is this charming stallion prospect’s fourth dam. The collection goes out with a bang in the form of lot no 11, where the name says it all: the leggy chestnut colt foal by Emerald van het Ruytershof-Calido I is called Extraklasse and he is a real eye-catcher, indeed.
The presentation of the ten foals on 18 May, the day of the auction, is expected to take place at about 12:45pm on the Derby ground, with the hybrid auction sale starting at 16:55pm.
