There was plenty going on at the recent show jumping weekend. And at two major five-star events, our horses from the Land between the Seas were right up there with the best.
At the Dublin Horse Show, the traditional tournament in Ireland, Arne van Heel (NED) and Keaton HV by Kannan-Contendro I (Rudolf Schmitt, Wesselburen), line 4847, caused quite a stir. In the Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland over 1.60 metres, the pair rode a double clear round to secure third place. They added €150,000 in prize money to Keaton’s tally – further cementing their place amongst the world’s elite. They had also delivered a clear round in the Nations Cup earlier in the day.
As part of the German team, national coach Otto Becker fielded the Holsteiner Cody by Casall-Quidam de Revel (Sören von Rönne, Neuendeich), line 8900, ridden by Rene Dittmer. With two clear rounds, the pair made a significant contribution to the team’s fourth-place finish. In the Rolex Grand Prix, Richard Vogel (GER) and Cloudio by Casall-Cassini I (Heike Ahrendt, Sollwitt), line 5889, also secured another rosette for the Holsteiner Verband with a sixth-place finish.
Richard Vogel had brought another Holsteiner with him to Dublin: Riding the eight-year-old Chember by Charleston-Quebec (Lutz Dechau, Nutteln), line 7228, the reigning European Champion placed three times at 1.45 metres and 1.50 metres – including one first-place finish. Chember is a son of Sara IV, one of Holstein’s most successful broodmares, and the half-brother to the Olympic and World Championship eventing horse Calle by Cristo (Yoshiaki Oiwa/JPN).
The Global Champions Tour stopped off in London. Here, Maximilian Weishaupt (GER) and Zuccero HV by Zirocco Blue-Caretino (Hanno Köhncke, Badendorf), line 4539, shone on several occasions. In the Grand Prix in the British capital, the pair remained faultless in both rounds and secured fifth place. In the first round of the GCL team competition, another 1.60-metre show jumping round, the pair finished sixth behind Denis Lynch (IRL) and Cordial by Casall-Chicago Z (Hans-Hermann Gempf, Stelle), line 325. Bull Run’s Jireh by Uriko-Colman (Timm Peters, Bargenstedt), line 890, and Kristen Vanderveen (USA) also secured fourth place in the Individual Competition (1.60 metres) in London.
Dressage
Sullivan ABN by Secret-Carpaccio (Anja Nygaard, Denmark), line 2290, successfully represented the Holstein colours in the dressage arena at the FEI WBFSH World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden. In the seven-year-olds’ classification, the Holsteiner and Nina Verina Braun (GER) took second place in the Small Final with a score of 74.729 per cent.
