A sign of the Young Champions: R+V Holstein State Foal Championships on 24 August

Following the Holstein Elite Foal Auction this coming Saturday, the R+V Holstein State Foal Championships on Sunday (24 August) will be the next highlight in the equestrian calendar. Here, the best foals in the state will compete in three categories to determine their champions.

At the foal inspection and registration ceremonies this summer, the best representatives of the 2025 crop recommended themselves for participation in the State Foal Championship, sponsored by the R+V General Agency Edzards. The Holsteiner Verband Hengsthaltungs GmbH is organising the event in Elmshorn, where a filly, a colt and a dressage-oriented foal will be crowned champions. Around 45 young hopefuls have been entered in the starting lists by their breeders and owners. The fillies will kick things off at 1 p.m., followed by the colts in the Herbert Blöcker Arena. Who will be crowned champion of champions? This question will be answered by the trio of judges, which this year consists of Holstein breeding director Stephan Haarhoff, three-time Derby winner Toni Hassmann and Oldenburg licensing commissioner Dr Evelin Schlotmann.

Cheques for the winning foals will be awarded by the R+V General Agency Edzards. High-quality prizes for winners and runners-up will be sponsored by Bense & Eicke, ClipMyHorse.tv, LKD Hauke Ahsbahs, Equistro and Salvana Pferdefutter, as well as stud fee vouchers from Holsteiner Verband Hengsthaltungs GmbH. Admission to the R+V Holsteiner State Foal Championships on 24 August is free. And it's definitely worth arriving early: from 9 a.m., the youngest riders will be showing off their riding skills in the junior tournament, and throughout the day, Children's Day will be inviting visitors to play, do crafts and discover new things. There will be a bouncy castle and great hands-on activities for all horse fans and those who want to become one: from pretzel biting to painting horseshoes, learning about horse grooming equipment or judging horses, there is plenty to do for younger and older horse lovers alike.
