The bloodline of this tremendously jumping three-year-old combines Marcus Ehning’s success horses: his sire is none other than Comme il faut, whose name is inextricably linked with that of exceptional sportsman, Marcus Ehning. And Cognac’s second dam is Sabrina by Sandro Boy – and Ehning used to jump from success to success both with Sabrina as well as with Sandro Boy.
Thanks to a co-operation with the Gölkel family’s Nybor Pferde GmbH & Co. KG, this promising stallion has been leased and stationed at the Elmshorn stallion stable. This modern stallion influenced by TB blood from a proven sport horse dam line attracted a lot of interest at his grading in December 2024 and impressed as one of the top jumpers of the age group.
Cognac demonstrated impressive natural jumping ability at the grading. As a sire, he is expected to be a valuable addition to the stallion keeping GmbB stable because of his tremendous athleticism, safeguarded by his successful damline.

Sire
Cognac is another Comme il faut son in addition to Charaktervoll in the stable of the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping GmbH. Comme il faut‘s sire, Cornet Obolensky, was doubtless one of the best jumping sires in the world and excelled in competition. His dam Ratina is unrivalled from an equestrian perspective, as well: with Piet Raijmakers and Ludger Beerbaum, her achievements include individual and team gold at the Mannheim European Championships in 1997, individual silver and team gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and team gold at the 1994 WEG in Den Haag.
Comme il faut already excelled at the National Championship in Warendorf and continued his show jumping career with Marcus Ehning at international top level. Particularly memorable was his performance at the 2019 Europeans in Rotterdam where he crowned his career with the combination securing team silver and fifth place individually.
Damline
Cognac’s bloodline reflects the close cooperation of his breeders, the Gölkel family, with the stable of Marcus Ehning: not only his sire Comme il faut used to be highly successfully shown by the Borken-based rider, but also his second dam, Sabrina by Sandro Boy, collected sporting merits with the Olympic champion. The combination’s achievements include World Cup level wins in London (GBR), Bordeaux and Paris (FRA). And also Sabrina‘s sire, Sandro Boy, and Marcus Ehning share milestones of their competition careers as they won the Kuala Lumpur (MYS) World Cup final in 2006, the Barcelona (ESP) Nations Cup in 2007 and the Munich (GER) Grand Prix in 2010. Cognac‘s third dam, Bali, is by Landadel, a stallion with two crosses to valuable TB sire, Ladykiller, through his sire Landgraf I as well as through his damline.
